Stuck studying on a beautiful day. ):
What do I do when I have a huge Geology midterm in a couple of days? Update my livejournal, ofcourse. It's gorgeous outside, too. 78 Duhgrees.

I'm applying for Housing at the Brookdale dorms for the Fall semester. I really hope to get in, though it's very difficult to get one. Not that my family treats me terribly or anything, but I just hope that I don't have to deal with the added stress they give me whenever I ask to go out at night. Apparently, the dog across the street is liable to rape me as soon as the sun sets. Actually, they have gotten very good about letting me go out, but as of late my grandmother gives me a ridiculously hard time if I ask to go out more than once a week. I'm almost 20 and in college. I don't understand their logic. >< An example would be that since I went to a birthday party on Sunday night, I can't go to tango practice on Monday night. Re-cock-ulousness.

Am thinking about whether or not I should finish Sartre's Nausea. I'm not very enthused with it, and I'm told that existentialism is becoming a bit obsolete, at least when compared to post-modernism. I'm not one to stop reading something just because it's become unfashionable, but I'm not enjoying it. Gah. This sucks. My reading habits suck.

I padded my Belle & Sebastian and Shins collections, finally got more Kings of Convenience, and I am currently downloading some Jon Brion, Mazarin, and Hanne Hukkelberg. On the 7th of April, I'll be going to a Yankees game and seeing Sondre Lerche during the evening. In other news, Justin Timberlake's next album is supposed to be The Rapture-like? Not sure how I feel about that.

Imma go do my laundry, clean up, and finally get some studyin' done. Poo.

I fail to see how existentialism is obsolete in regard to post-modernism. How is there really even a connection. I don't think there is really a way for philosophies to become obsolete, because they aren't exactly definitive. But even so, modes of thinking do go... out of fashion as it were, however that does not mean they are not worth knowing, and are not relevant in certain instances. Freud is 'out of fashion' with feminists, yet he is still a founder of one of the two major schools of psychoanalysis. The Romantic picturesque, beautiful, and sublime are out of fashion, but they are not in any way obsolete. Plato is outdated and I don't think many people really think there is an ideal perfection of a table, while everything else on this plane of existence is just a pale imitation, but you still can't get around without reading him.

Bad choice of wording. I do believe that it's something worth knowing, but much of post-modernist themes run parallel with existentialist ones, and improve upon some of its flaws. Later in life, Sartre even recanted a bit, saying that not everything is up to the choices we make. Out of fashion is more correct, but that's not why I'm conflicted about finishing Nausea.

So while many modes of thinking are relevant, it is still up to our personal beliefs and tastes whether to pursue them. While Collectivism may be worth knowing, I don't particularly believe in it and so I'm probably not going to pursue any Rousseau.

It annoys me that philosophy is a thing that can be considered in or out of fashion. Like Communism. Fucking hipsters, and fucking Guevara.

Well, knowing about it, knowing how it works is what you need to figure out whether or not you want to pursue it though. And knowing and pursuing are two different things. I fucking hate Rousseau. Like... a lot. We were reading him in French Lit. and augh.
